Sail a traditional canoe
Waan Aelon in Majol (WAM), a local NGO keeping Marshallese canoe building alive, can take you out on the lagoon in an authentic sailing canoe. One of the most genuine experiences on the atoll.
Every country in the world
If you're chasing all 193, you already know the Marshall Islands is one of the hard ones — few flights, few beds, and almost no planning information online. We're a local Majuro team, and this page is the honest version: what it costs, how the flights work, and how to make a short stop count.
Only two international routes reach Majuro: the United Airlines Island Hopper (Honolulu ⇄ Guam via Kwajalein, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Chuuk) and Nauru Airlines (Brisbane via Nauru and Tarawa). The Hopper runs a few times a week, and stopovers are usually booked as a multi-city ticket — the part that trips most people up.
Because the Hopper also serves Pohnpei and Chuuk, many country collectors combine the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia in one loop. We list hotels and car rentals at those stops too, so you can plan the whole run in one place.
The honest numbers
Majuro is not a cheap stop — the currency is the US dollar and almost everything is imported. Here's what things actually cost, so you can plan without surprises.
Bed for the night
$50–$130
Cheapest is Ocean Whisper Backpackers — air-con bunk rooms from $50 solo or $65 for two. Marshall Islands Resort or Hotel RRE ($90–$130) are the main town hotels, both with airport shuttles. Airbnb exists, but booking locally is often cheaper than the online price.
Getting around
$8–$12 a trip
Shared taxis run the single main road from Rita to Laura. Flag one down; it may stop for other passengers. Agree the price first for longer trips.
Food
Varies
The Food Truck 692 is delicious and reasonably priced; Annie's Bakery does fresh baked goods with a fruit market outside. Local Marshallese food stands vary by season — ask us what's running.
Swimming
Free
The dredged pools at the end of the airport strip are the best easy swim on the atoll. Laura Beach, at the western tip, is the picnic spot.
Sunset
Free
Majuro Bridge — the highest point on the atoll, with views both sides.
Accommodation taxes: 8% government + 4% service tax, added on top of room rates. Ask for the all-in figure when you book.
A short stop, well spent

Boat out to Eneko, Enemanit, Bokanbotin or Bikendrik for snorkelling and a picnic under the palms. Boats run on request — we connect you with local boat owners.
A guided van tour the length of Majuro, with stops at local markets and handicraft shops. The fastest way to understand how atoll life actually works.
If you have a weekend, Air Marshall Islands flies 45 minutes to Wotje — a small outer-island community and about as far off the beaten track as travel gets.
