The United Airlines Island Hopper: your guide to flying to Majuro
The United Island Hopper is one of only two international routes into Majuro — the other is Nauru Airlines. Here's how the Island Hopper route works, how to book it, and what to expect on the way.
The Island Hopper route at a glance
Honolulu → Majuro → Kwajalein → Kosrae → Pohnpei → Chuuk → Guam, and the same in reverse. It runs a few times a week, not daily.
How to book the United Island Hopper
Book on united.com or the United app — search Honolulu (HNL) or Guam (GUM) to Majuro (MAJ). The route only runs a few days a week, so check the calendar view for flight days before you plan the rest of your trip. Seats sell out around holidays, so book early.
Where does the Island Hopper stop?
Between Honolulu and Guam the flight stops at Majuro, Kwajalein, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Chuuk. Kwajalein is a US military installation, so most passengers can't get off there. At the other stops you usually stay on board or wait near the plane while passengers and cargo change over.
Flying from Honolulu vs. from Guam
From Honolulu, Majuro is the first stop, which makes it the most direct way in from the US. From Guam, Majuro comes near the end of the route, after the stops in Micronesia — a longer day, but handy if you're connecting from Asia.
Stopovers on the Island Hopper
Breaking the journey for a few days at an island along the way is a popular way to see more of Micronesia. Because the route only flies some days, a stopover means waiting for the next flight, so plan your nights around the schedule. Check stopover rules and fares with United when you book.
Tips for the flight
It's a long day with several landings. Bring snacks, water, something to do and anything you need from your carry-on, and keep your passport handy — you may go through checks at more than one stop. Schedules can change, so check your booking before you fly.
